Repairs

I do repairs of all audio electronics: guitar/bass pedals, amplifiers (solid-state or tube amps), guitar electronics, power supplies,... I love doing restorations of old tube equipment like radios and amplifiers, solid-state hifi amps (Sansui, Pioneer,...) and such.

I charge 25 euros (VAT excl.) per 30 minutes of work, plus expenses for any replacement parts.

Repair costs primarily depend on the amount of time it takes to perform a decent diagnosis and the actual repair. In general:

- PCB’s or printed circuit boards are trickier to work on than point-to-point wired circuitry. Some PCB's are rather fragile (yes, modern Fenders for example) and packed full with components, and often quite troublesome to remove in order to perform the repair. In short, it takes more time.

- Old vintage equipment that has been used a lot, but has never been revised before, often contains a number of worn-out components. Some components have a limited lifespan. A 1960's tube amplifier will very likely contain dried out or DC-leaking capacitors, possibly also noisy carbon comp resistors and worn potentiometers, and so on. While 'vintage' is a good marketing label, it does usually mean the device needs a lot of tender loving care.

I only use quality components with a more than acceptable lifespan (Nichicon, Panasonic, Vishay,...) and no shady brands.
